Core Beliefs

OUR CREED:

ONE BOOK: We believe the 66 books of the Bible are the inspired word of God.

ONE GOD: We believe in the triune nature of a single God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—consistently revealed in the Bible to be gracious, merciful, compassionate, powerful, loving, and just.

ONE PEOPLE: We believe that God created humanity in His image to enjoy a special loving relationship with Him and others.

ONE TRAGEDY: We believe humanity rebelled against God’s perfect plan and that sin has continued to corrupt us and our world ever since.

ONE SOLUTION: We believe that Jesus—God Incarnate—came to Earth, was born to a virgin, and lived a sinless life revealing every aspect of God’s perfect, selfless love to us. We believe that His death on the Cross paid the price for all the sins of the world and enabled people to be restored to their Father in Heaven. We believe His resurrection paved the way for all believers to have newness of life. We believe Jesus will come again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to usher in a New Heaven and a New Earth.

ONE FAMILY: We believe that any person who accepts Christ’s free gift of salvation is born-again and a member of God’s family with all the rights and privileges of a son or daughter of the Creator. We believe this includes the opportunity to share in the Lord’s Supper. Therefore our communion time is open to any and all who have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior.

ONE SPIRIT: We believe in the restorative work of God’s Holy Spirit. We believe that every Christian has a new life—one that will evidence Christ’s characteristics in correlation to that person’s willingness to become selfless by the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe each Christian has access to the Spirit’s counsel, wisdom, and provision. We believe that the Spirit enables Christians to function as Christ’s representatives on Earth. We believe that everything we undertake to serve our Lord must be accomplished by the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that apart from Him we achieve nothing.

ONE GOAL: We believe we are called to reflect the love of Jesus in all that we do. Our ultimate mission is to know Jesus and make Him known.

ONE ACCESS: We believe in the power of prayer. We believe that Christ alone is our Great Intercessor and because of our access to His Resurrection Life we are righteous before God. Therefore we are welcome to boldly present our requests to God.

OUR MISSION:

Love God: God is love and because He so loves us we seek to love Him. We worship Him. We talk to Him through prayer. We allow Him to direct our lives by the power of His Spirit.

We understand that God sees things differently than we do and understands us better than we understand ourselves. He loves and forgives us more than any person ever will or could. He also loves and forgives every believer as much as He does us. And so we seek to love and forgive others—even those who do us wrong—by the incredible power of God’s Spirit at work in our hearts.

We know that in God’s eyes, everyone has a unique purpose—one that brings us fulfillment, joy and a part in furthering His Kingdom. The Bible is our guide in discovering our role. It explains the good nature of God the Father and His plan for humanity; the corrupting influence of sin; the healing found in Jesus—God Incarnate; and the blessing that comes when we are restored to a loving relationship with God by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We love Him because He first loved us. –1 John 4:19

Live Like Jesus: Jesus is the head of Calvary Boise. That means we are dedicated to allowing Him to work in and through us by the power of His Holy Spirit. We strive only to yield ourselves to the Spirit’s leading. We want to allow Him to work in and through us to shine His light wherever we go. To that end, we are all called to carry God’s abundant love into our families, neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and communities. We are also part of a great, global effort to share Christ’s Good News to “every tribe, tongue, and nation” (Rev. 7:9). That’s why we support missionaries in eight nations and work closely with other organizations to serve the needs of our local community.

Be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. –Ephesians 5:1-2

Let the Spirit Lead: When we accept Christ’s sacrifice as payment for our sins, we are born-again. As we develop a new life by the power of His Spirit, we become more like Jesus and are empowered to carry His love into a dark and desperate world. Allowing Christ to be our Savior and Lord is the beginning of a glorious eternity and a more abundant life here on Earth. Together, we form a family of God’s beloved children and heirs of His kingdom.

Salvation is the beginning of a great adventure. Learning more about who God is, what He does, and the access you have to His love and faithfulness prepares you for every trial and triumph you’ll ever encounter. The more you spend time with God the more you reflect His good nature. This church is built of people who want to continually become more like Jesus. So we help each other study God’s Word. We interact with Him through prayer, and we join in activities designed to reveal more of His love for the world.

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit. –John 3:8

QUESTIONS:

What kind of church is this? – We are a Bible-believing group of born-again Christians seeking to know God’s will through prayer, study of scripture, and fellowship so we are prepared to share God’s love wherever we go.

What about worship? Our contemporary worship focuses on God’s praiseworthy nature and our call in scripture to sing new songs to the Lord (Psalm 96:1). Over and over, scripture tells us to praise the Lord loudly, and we do so joyously (Psalm 95:1-2, Psalm 98:4-6). No matter the music, Jesus is the focus.

What about sacraments? In keeping with Jesus’ example we baptize people who believe in and profess Christ as Lord (Acts 8:26-38). We fulfill Christ’s commandment to remember His life-giving sacrifice by regularly sharing the Lord’s Supper. We also celebrate other milestones—dedicating children to the Lord and praying for families, performing Christian marriages after premarital discipleship, and ordaining pastors who meet specific requirements.

What about fellowship? This is a come-as-you-are church. Everyone is welcome. [Check out our welcome video]
